Biden Plans to Offer Compensation to Separated Immigrant Families
Biden is working on a plan to offer compensation to families of children separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border, including undocumented immigrants.
The families in question are the 5,500 children that were taken from their parents due to Trump’s family separation policy, which was created in an effort to deter families from crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.
Though Biden was clear he believed these families should be compensated in his statement Saturday, he had had no idea how.
However, Biden has created a task force on this issue when he took office and there has been some discussion on how best to deal with this issue including offering $450,000 per family. Although, these plans are not solidified.
With a big vote coming up in the Senate for the infrastructure bill and the U.S.-Mexico border opening up to vaccinated immigrants, we will see where Biden stacks this in the list of priorities in dealing with undocumented immigrant rights.
